2005 USA Leagues Information

The country's largest competitive tennis league, USA League Tennis provides organized, competitive team matches for players of all ability levels. The Phoenix area offers Adult, Senior, Super Senior and Mixed Leagues which let you experience team camaraderie and give you the opportunity to meet new people in your area as well as in other parts of the country. Keep practicing, keep winning, and you may travel beyond your local league and compete in area, sectional, and national championships.

USA LEAGUE TENNIS SUPER SENIOR
We are currently recruiting for League teams throughout the valley. Each team match consists of three doubles matches for players 60 . We will be forming teams at the 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 levels. Phoenix will host the first annual Sectional tournament pitting the best “experienced” players from our area against the best from Tucson, Albuquerque and El Paso. This winner may advance to a special invitational national event.

USA LEAGUE TENNIS SENIOR
Players must be 50 years old or over in the current year. Weekly team matches consist of three doubles matches per team. Levels of play are Women’s and Men’s 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5. Winning teams on the local level advance to an Area Playoff (if necessary). Area winners advance to the Sectional Championships. Sectional winners advance to the National Championships.

USA LEAGUE TENNIS ADULT
Players must be 19 years old or over in the current year. Weekly team matches consist of two singles and three doubles matches per team (except in the 2.5, 5.0 and Open divisions, which play one singles and two doubles matches). Levels of play are Women’s and Men’s 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and Open. Winning teams on the local level advance to an Area Playoff (if necessary). Area winners advance to the Sectional Championships. Sectional winners advance to the National Championship. Open division winners advance to a separate invitational Open Tournament.

USA LEAGUE TENNIS MIXED DOUBLES
Players must be 19 years old or over in the current year. Levels of play--6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0 and Open--are determined by combining the NTRP levels of each player. For instance, a 4.0 woman and a 4.0 man would play together in the 8.0 league. Or, a 3.5 player could play with a 4.5 player in the same 8.0 league. A team match consists of three mixed doubles. The winning teams on the local level advance to an Area Playoff (if necessary). Area winners advance to the Sectional Championship and Sectional winners to the Regional Championship.

Every League team member must be at least 19 years of age, must be a member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), and must have a National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) rating. There is a $25 fee for each League in which you play. Court fees and tennis balls for home matches average approximately $6 per home match or $3 per match played - depending upon which method your captain chooses for collecting these fees.

The team format provides some unique opportunities to meet and to play with other tennis players of approximately the same skill level. Each team has a captain (or co-captains) who help organize the team to ensure that league play proceeds smoothly and enjoyably. To find out about captaining and playing on a team, contact the USA League Coordinator at 480-483-0621, or by email at USTAPhoenix@mindspring.com.
