Tournament Handbook

Several of the top collegiate, co-ed club teams will descend upon Las Cruces, N.M. on Valentine's Day weekend for the Tennis on Campus Championships - USTA Southwest, held at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.

The three day event, held February 12-14, is an automatic qualifier for the winner of this event into the Tennis on Campus - National Championships, held later this year at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.

Seven colleges comprising 12 teams are expected to participate at this year's third annual section championships in Las Cruces. The 2008 champion was University of New Mexico, and last year Arizona State took home the crown.

Both past champions are expected to participate this year, along with University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, host New Mexico State University, University of Texas-El Paso and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

Matches will be played in a World TeamTennis-style team format, consisting of one short set each (first to 6 games, win by two, no-ad scoring, 9-point tiebreak at 5 games all). Each team match consists of one line of men's doubles, women's doubles, men's singles, women's singles and mixed doubles. Team winner is decided by total games won in those five lines.

   2. There will be a championship fee of $100 per team, plus an $8 non-refundable TennisLink processing fee.
   3. Click "proceed to check out", enter credit card info, and your team is registered.

Teams also must fill out the
Team Entry Form and Publicity and Liability Waiver Release (located on pages 8 and 9 of this document). Team entry form can be filled out by the captain. Liability releases must be filled out individually. These forms are due by February 1!

There is a mandatory conference call for team captains on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Call-in information and time will be sent to each registered team. There is also an on-site Captain's Meeting on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the NMSU Tennis Center.

Matches will begin on Friday from 4-6 p.m. Saturday play begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. Final day play on Sunday will take place from approximately 9 a.m. to noon, with awards ceremony to follow the completion of play. USTA Southwest will also be presenting our 2009 Tennis on Campus winners for 'Club of the Year' and 'Leader of the Year'.
