Llamas, Ponwith Chosen for USTA Development Camp

Nathan Ponwith (L) and Emanuel Llamas at the USTA Southwest Junior Closed this past summer in Albuquerque. Both were chosen recently to attend a special USTA Development Camp for players born in 1997 and 1998.

The USTA recently announced eight players selected to participate in the USTA Player Development Camp to be held October 15th - October 18th, 2009 at the USTA Training Center West in Carson, California, and two of them hail from the USTA Southwest Section.

Emanuel Llamas (El Paso, Texas) and Nathan Ponwith (Scottsdale, Ariz.) were each chosen to attend this unique training opportunity. The four-day camp will be conducted by USTA National Coach, Kent Kinnear, for players born in 1997 and 1998. He will be assisted by USTA National Coaches, Tom Gullikson, Adam Peterson and David Roditi. Daily fitness training will be provided by Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Rodney Marshall.

Ponwith and Llamas are currently the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked players in the Boys' 12 division in the USTA Southwest rankings.

The two squared off this summer in the Boys 12 finals of the USTA Southwest Junior Closed in Albuquerque. Ponwith is currently the No. 36 ranked junior in the nation in that division. Llamas is No. 42.
