Phoenix, Tucson markets to get round the clock tennis coverage

Customers to Receive Sports and Lifestyle Network on Channel 169

Cox Communications,
a multi-service broadband communications and entertainment company with more than 6.2 million total residential and commercial customers, has added Tennis Channel, the only 24-hour, television-based multimedia destination dedicated to both the professional sport and tennis lifestyle.

Beginning May 1, Phoenix and Tucson-area Cox Communications subscribers will receive Tennis Channel on channel 169.

Cox subscribers will be able to catch the network’s inaugural coverage of the US Open in August in addition to Wimbledon and French Open telecasts this summer. Getting access to the Tennis Channel will require an upgrade for Cox subscribers to the sports tier plan.

“Arizona has a very strong tennis community with a rich history of hosting professional tennis and community tennis events,” said Eric Turpin, senior vice president of distribution, Tennis Channel. “With Cox Communications’ support and the recent addition of the US Open to complete our Grand Slam schedule, Tennis Channel is expanding its reach to tennis enthusiasts, sports lovers and casual viewers in Phoenix who need their round-the-clock tennis fix.”

USTA Central Arizona has approximately 3,500 adult members, 1,200 junior members and more than 60 member organizations such as private clubs, public facilities and schools. Arizona has a rich history of professional tennis, holding the Outback Champions Series at the Scottsdale Princess from 1986-2000s which showcased former world No. 1 players and legends like Andre Agassi, John McEnroe, Patrick Rafter and Jim Courier.

USTA Southern Arizona (Tucson and surrounding area) has played host to several USTA League National Championships in all age divisions. The USTA Southwest recently held two major tennis events for the community related to the United States Davis Cup team’s appearance in Surprise last January and February. The two events, Block Party and Community Day, featured activities including prize courts, tennis ball decorating stations, instruction and vendor courts.
