Nominate Someone for a USTA Central Arizona Annual Award!

It's that time of year again! USTA Central Arizona is seeking nominations for its annual awards. Do you know an individual or organization that should be considered for any of these prestigious awards? Anyone can submit a nomination for any of these awards. A description of the awards and a nomination form is listed below. Also be sure to mark your calendar for the Central Arizona annual awards banquet and celebration, which is scheduled for April 15. More information to follow at a later date.

Please note the deadline for nominations received at the USTA Central Arizona office is March 9. You can also call USTA Central Arizona office at 480-951-4333 for a nomination form.

AWARDS

Winners of the following categories advance to USTA sectional and national awards. 

Wilson Adult Player of the Year
USTA Central Arizona honors either a male or female for outstanding performance in competitive tennis at the local, state, section, and national levels.  This award is given for significant achievement as a tennis player at every level of competition.    

Community Tennis Volunteer
USTA Central Arizona honors one person each year for outstanding work in community tennis.  This award is given to recognize recent significant contributions made by a person volunteering to promote adult or junior recreational or competitive tennis programs through community tennis associations, community centers, schools, and parks in his or her local community and throughout Central Arizona.

Prince Family of The Year
USTA Central Arizona honors one family each year for outstanding service through volunteerism in promoting tennis within the community.  This award is given for extended volunteerism by several members of one family.  Although tennis professionals may be eligible, only the volunteer work of the professional will be evaluated.

Head/Penn Junior Sportsmanship
USTA Central Arizona honors one junior competitive player annually for continued outstanding conduct at competitive events at the local, state, section and national levels. This award is presented to a player who not only displays the finest qualities of sportsmanship during tournament play, but who also demonstrates exemplary conduct away from the court as well.

All About Tennis Outstanding Junior Player of the Year
USTA Central Arizona honors one boy and one girl annually for outstanding accomplishment throughout the year. This award is presented to one male and one female player who has demonstrated significant achievement throughout the year.  It will recognize outstanding accomplishment in tennis (ranking, improvement, overcoming adversity, etc.)

Outstanding Media Support
USTA Central Arizona honors one person from the sports media who provides outstanding tennis news through newspapers, magazines, periodical publications, or television.  This award is given to recognize the contribution that the media within Central Arizona makes in furthering public awareness of tennis players or tennis events in the area.

Member Organization of the Year
USTA Central Arizona honors schools, clubs, parks and recreation facilities, local associations, etc. who are USTA organizational members and who show exceptional service to its members in sponsoring USTA events. This award is given to an organizational member of the USTA for outstanding service to the local tennis community and to its individual members.

Outstanding High School Coach
USTA Central Arizona honors one person each year for outstanding work as a high school coach.  To recognize a high school coach who is making a difference in juniors’ lives through a High School Tennis Program.

Outstanding Tournament Enrichment
USTA Central Arizona honors an individual for his/her contributions in creating and providing an enjoyable tournament experience for the player.  This award is given to recognize the contribution of an individual who encourages competitive play in his/her community by providing and enriching sanctioned tournaments in a fun, friendly and professional manner.  Nominees could be tournament directors, officials, tournament desk workers, tournament committee members and volunteers.

Local USTA Central Arizona Awards
Winners of these categories do not advance to sectional or national awards. 

Penn Sportsmanship Award
Annual sportsmanship award given to an outstanding girl and boy in the 12-14 age category.  This award is presented to a player who not only displays the finest qualities of sportsmanship during tournament play, but who also demonstrates exemplary conduct away from the court as well.

Marilyn Byron Memorial Sportsmanship – Girls
This annual award is given to an outstanding girl in the 16-18 age category.  This award is presented to a player who not only displays the finest qualities of sportsmanship during tournament play, but who also demonstrates exemplary conduct away from the court as well.

John Gooding Memorial Sportsmanship – Boys
Annual award given to an outstanding boy in the 16-18 age category.  This award is presented to a player who not only displays the finest qualities of sportsmanship during tournament play, but who also demonstrates exemplary conduct away from the court as well. 

Michael Rodriguez Memorial – Ambassador To Tennis
This special award is given to an adult who exemplifies good sportsmanship, love of the game, encouragement in and growth of the game at all levels of play.
