Scottsdale Ranch Park Renovation Party - Sept. 27

September 13, 2008 06:37 PM

Scottsdale Ranch Park will host a busy day of tennis activity, Saturday, Sept. 27, with a grand opening of the city public facility's six new additional US Open blue courts.

In addition to a fun play day of free tennis and fun to celebrate the new court additions to the SRP Tennis Center, the site will also host a Tennis Block Party and a QuickStart Tennis Workshop, all of which will take place from 7:30 - 10:30 a.m.

The Tennis Block Party will feature a variety of on-court games and drills, and is free and open for the public to attend.

The QuickStart Tennis Workshop is limited to the first 20 people that sign up, so please R.S.V.P. to hold your spot!! Materials will be provided free of charge, and the clinic is being taught by a national trainer for the United States Tennis Association’s QuickStart Tennis format. The workshop is aimed at teaching tennis to kids 10 years of age and younger, and is a great opportunity for elementary school teachers, physical education teachers, tennis teaching professionals, and parents to find out about QuickStart.

"We are excited to have the courts available for play now," said Scottsdale Ranch Park Tennis Director Karen Weir of the new additions which brings the site's total now to 18 courts, all available for public play.

"We actually used them for a junior satellite event (in early September), and we're putting the finishing touches on the courts now. The (six-court addition) should really help us expand our own league programs and offerings for phone-in reservations to play. It will allow us to do so much more.

The six-court addition was approved for funding by a general bond in 2000. Construction on the six new courts began in October 2007.

Scottsdale Ranch Park (10400 E Via Linda Scottsdale, AZ  85258) is one of the largest public facilities in the Phoenix metropolitan area and one of the host facilities of the USTA Junior Winter National Championships, held each year between Christmas and New Year's Day. Earlier this year, the site was named a top USTA Tennis Welcome Center. SRP has also been named a USTA Outstanding Facility Award winner in the past.
